Rolo is a 6yo Friesian x QH gelding
I needed to get clarity on my new horse, Rolo. I bought him 7 weeks prior to bringing him to BHP. Most of those weeks I had regret buying him and shed a lot of tears. I’m his 4 owner and Rolo is only 6 years old. In the first couple days of bringing him home, he displayed aggression: stepping, stomping, nipping, biting, kicking at me at meal time and in the round pen. There were many other more settle signs that I didn’t realize until my lessons with Mark. This is the first time in the 50 years of my horse experience that I’ve had such a challenging horse like Rolo. Our time at BHP was life changing and life saving. Rolo redeemed himself once he got the proper leadership and communication at his first lesson with Mark. At our second lesson the following day, he was a completely different horse. Kind, respectful, eager to go on the obstacles. He took to the trail course like nobody’s business. With each obstacle, the more confidence and trust we gained with each other. I had goosebumps the entire lesson. I’m forever grateful to Mark and Lee for providing me with the much needed clarity I needed and for helping Rolo and I. We can’t wait to go back to BHP! We now know the potential when we visualize all that is possible, establish the Bolender Bubble, give black and white communication, display no emotion when asking or correcting, and being a true leader.
Thank you!!!

Lee and Mark, I gave Bud the day off yesterday and this morning we went on a good training trail ride where we applied all that we learned this past week-end ! I have to say every minute of the time spent with Mark in the clinic was valuable. At each step down we halted, we turned on the haunch to help execute switchbacks, we crossed a rocky creek with downed trees and Bud The Wiser kept moving forward with confidence !!!! Whoot Whoot and thanks again for a fun and exciting weekend !"

"Dear Mark and Lee, I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed myself at the Bolender Horse Park last weekend. Four of us came in from Port Townsend with our fiery steeds. We learned so much from Mark. I also wanted to let you know that I thought the facility was beautifully kept. I do not know the last time I had been around that many horses where there was no manure. Outstanding job. I am certain that we are coming back. There are some other women here who ride English who really want to expose their horses to Mark’s training. I will be in touch with you soon. Thank you very much again for a great weekend."

"We had a great “Ladies Night out” at Bolender Horse Park. Worked “in hand” one day and partied in the evening with a great pot luck complete with wine and beer. The next day we had a blast riding the course, then Mark took all 9 of us on a beautiful trail ride to finish the day!"

"Thank you for helping with clarity in closer awareness in my relationship with my horse. There was awareness in my responsibility to get the job done. I think we both made some break throughs in our confidence and unity together."

"Have ridden for many, many years and have shown in dressage for a few years. Have also trained a number of horses. I say the above just to point out that Mark was still capable of training and teaching me lots of things. He is also good at helping to get rid of “lazy habits” that both me and my horse have slipped into! The facilities and staff are welcoming with both indoor arena to work in and the wonderful trail course that everyone has an opportunity to ride. Your rooms are set apart nicely a bathroom a little closer to the apartments would be nice."

"Ranger is a 3 year old mustang. We have a great relationship but rough around the edges! Mark helped me see my horse in a whole new light. He helped me to ask not tell which I had been taught. I saw an immediate change in him! The obstacles are so much fun. I felt like a little kid. Mark and Lee are warm and welcoming. What an experience."

"Came to Bolender Horse Park to build confidence in my Hanoverian Hunter Angel, not only for the ‘show’ ring but for trail riding. She came back after a month in training as a whole new horse! She is such a fun horse to ride now. She matured immensely."

"My internship at the horse park has been a blast. I’ve learned so much about running shows/challenges, barn management, office management, riding, training… the list never ends! If you’re thinking about a serious equestrian internship, definitely consider Bolender Horse Park. One of the most hands-on, riding-intensive opportunities I have found in an internship."
